Fleming Calls on Kennedy and His ESA Fund to End Their Lies

The Fleming Campaign today called on Treasurer John Kennedy and his Ending Spending Fund Super PAC (ESA Fund) to take down their dishonest, lying advertisement against Congressman Fleming.

In the new advertisement released, but unsurprisingly not promoted to press, John Kennedy and his allies lie about Congressman Fleming's record in fighting illegal immigration by falsely contorting and slicing a previous statement Fleming made during a 2008 forum. As a result, attorneys for the Fleming Campaign have demanded all Louisiana television stations currently airing the Kennedy/ESA Fund ad to take it down because it is a sad lie.

Matt Beynon, Fleming for Senate Communications Director, said: "This is yet another in a long line of pitiful attacks by the flailing Kennedy Campaign. John Kennedy is an entitled politician in the twilight of his career grasping for one final victory and he saw his once large lead evaporate in just a matter of weeks. Rather than run and lose a campaign with dignity, Kennedy has chosen to spread rumors and lie about his opponents' records. It's sad. We thought John Kennedy was better than this."

"But here are the facts. Kennedy was a liberal Democrat who endorsed John Kerry for President just a few years ago, he opposed middle class tax cuts, he wasted nearly half a million dollars of taxpayer money on his lavish office, and he even supported a gun ban that would have trampled on the rights of thousands of Louisiana gun owners. John Fleming has an A+ rating from NumbersUSA, the most anti-illegal immigration advocacy organization in the nation. To argue John Fleming is weak on immigration is a joke," continued Beynon.

The ESA Fund is the Super PAC supporting the Senate candidacy of Treasurer Kennedy. However, unlike most Super PACs that have a clear distance between themselves and the candidate they support, the ESA Fund and Kennedy are directly connected. In fact, Kennedy is the largest single donor to the ESA Fund, having manipulated campaign finance laws to donate over $2 million to the ESA Fund earlier this year.

"John Kennedy cannot claim ignorance about the ESA Fund's lies. He is their largest single donor. He holds responsibility for the lies they peddle. The ESA Fund's lies are John Kennedy's lies. John Kennedy and his ESA Fund cronies should remove their ad of lies immediately," concluded Beynon.
